4 Website Image Editing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

There are over 250,000 new websites created every day. That means there are thousands of new webmasters navigating the exciting yet daunting waters of building an online space.

Not every webmaster has created a website before, and even fewer will be expert photo editors. If that’s your situation, you’re not alone.

But it does mean that you’ll be more prone to making common website image editing mistakes. Lucky for you, learning what those are early in the process will save you time, money, and lots of headaches!

These are all the mistakes you might make when editing website images and how to avoid them.

1. Uploading the Wrong Image Size

When you’re editing image size and pixels, are you exporting your images with default settings? Or are you changing them based on the sizes that suit your web design?

If you aren’t changing anything, you’re likely uploading images with a file size that is too big. Ensure you only export images that are 1MB or less so they don’t slow down your site.

Check the largest possible pixel width of the images through your website’s back end and don’t upload photos larger than that. Often, it’s around 1024px or 2048px.

2. Not Automating or Batching

Editing photos can take a long time but there are ways to shorten this process. How? By editing smarter, not harder.

Take advantage of the “copy settings” and preset features on Adobe Lightroom. These allow you to apply the same image editing tools and adjustments to more than one photo. Or look into the image annotation by SentiSight.ai tool to automate common editing processes.

3. Saving Incorrect File Formats

Gifs can add a humorous, personal touch to your online web content. But only if you save them as GIF files. If they are JPG, JPEG, or PNG then the image will not move.

And never try to upload a RAW photo file because they are way too large and your website won’t recognize the file type. Stick to JPG and PNG for stationary images, instead.

4. Too Much or Too Little Editing

One of the most common website image editing mistakes is to go nuts with the photo editing sliders. Many people over-saturate the colors in images, over-soften people, and change the entire backgrounds of images, too.

But you don’t want to go too far the other way and not edit your photos at all.

Make them a little brighter, a little sharper, and a little more vibrant and you won’t go too far wrong. Consider investing in a photo editing course if you’re a total novice.

Don’t Make These Website Image Editing Mistakes

Sometimes, you don’t even know when you’re making common website image editing mistakes. But now you know what they are and what to do instead, your website will look more beautiful and professional as a result.

Images are only one part of running a website. There’s so much more you need to know! Lucky for you, our website has tons of business and tech tips to help you achieve your ambitions.
