4 Common Tablet Buying Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

The process of purchasing a tablet can be overwhelming with the sheer number of options available. You need to consider the brand, operating system, size, storage capacity, and more.

If you can avoid common tablet buying mistakes, you’ll be in a better position to pick the table that will work for you. Let’s take a look at the most common ones and how to avoid them.

1. Choosing the Wrong OS

Your operating system can make it easier or more difficult for you to work with your tablet. When buying tablets online, you should choose one with an operating system that will work for you.

The first step is to consider whether you’ve already bought into an environment via your smartphone. Choosing the same one will make it easier to share and update apps and data. This allows you to seamlessly transition between devices.

Apple’s iOS is very common and found in iPads. Meanwhile, Google offers the Android environment. These are the two most popular options.

Although there are no cellphones in the environment, Amazon’s Fire OS may be worth considering. It may be helpful if you subscribe to Amazon Prime and have Echo devices already.

The Chromebook Tab, an education-focused tablet, uses Google’s Chrome OS. In addition, you can choose Windows 10 through the Surface tablets.

2. Storage Choices

When purchasing a tablet, you’ll need to choose how much onboard storage you want. Remember that the operating system does take a chunk of this space. If you choose an iPad, you will be limited to the storage embedded in the device.

If you choose an Android tablet, you will most likely be able to add additional storage through a MicroSD or SD memory card. Even a low-cost 8 GB tablet can now have an extra 64, 128, or even 512 GB available.

When comparing tablet prices, make sure to take into account how much-embedded storage there is and if you can add more.

3. Choosing the Wrong Connections

You’ll have the choice to purchase a WiFi-only model or one that supports cellular data connections. Unfortunately, some people don’t fully consider their needs when purchasing a tablet.

If you will usually use your tablet at home or where there’s a wifi connection, you can get away with a cheaper WiFi-only tablet, However, you may want to consider one with a SIM-card slot if you want to surf the internet where you don’t have a connection.

4. Forgetting the Latest Tablet Features

Recent tablets have switched to the newer USB-C connection which is faster and can support fast charging. Cheaper and older tablets may still use the older micro-USB connection. On the other hand, iPads use Apple’s lightning connector.

Many people like to add accessories to the tablet to make it easier to use. Choosing an Apple tablet can make this easy due to the standardization across Apple accessories.

Android tablets don’t have this standardization which can make it harder to find the accessories you want for your tablet. However, there is also a much larger variety of accessories to choose from.
