Someone Ran a Red Light and Hit Me: What Happens Next?

Have you ever been in a car accident?

If a car ran a red light and hit your car, there might not be much you can do. Some drivers will slam on their brakes around this light, but some won’t. Even if they did and ran the red light, there’s nothing legally you can do.

Don’t worry! Here is what you need to know about someone who ran a red light and hit you.

Read on to learn more about what happens if you’re involved in an accident.

File a Police Report

After they have hit you by a car running a red light, you should first file a police report and find a car accident lawyer. If the driver does not stop, try to get a description of the car and the license plate number. Once the police arrive, they will ask you for your side of the story and will also talk to any witnesses.

They will then file a report, and you may get a copy of this report. The report can be evidence if you decide to hire an auto accident lawyer and file a civil action against the driver.

Check Yourself for Injuries

If you are ever in a car accident, the first thing you should do is check yourself for injuries. This can be difficult to do if you are in shock, but need to make sure you are not hurt before you try to help anyone else. If you can, move to the side of the road and turn on your hazard lights.

Then, call 911 and wait for help to arrive. You should also see a doctor as soon as possible to document you’re injured in a car accident.

Get the Driver’s Insurance Information

After you have gathered all the driver’s information, you will need to contact your insurance company and file a claim. Your insurance company will then send an adjuster to assess the damages to your vehicle. The adjuster will also look at any other damage, such as the property, that was caused by a T-boned accident with an at-fault driver.

Once the adjuster has assessed the damages, they will work with the other driver’s insurance company to determine who is at fault for the accident. If we find the other driver to be at fault, their insurance company will then reimburse you for the damages.

Take Pictures of the Damages

If you are involved in a car accident in which the other driver ran a red light and hit you, it is important to take pictures of the damage to your car. This will help to document the accident and will be helpful if you need to file an insurance claim or a police report. Be sure to get close-up shots of any dents or scratches, as well as any broken glass.

You should also take pictures of the other driver’s car to document the damage. If possible, try to get a picture of the other driver’s license plate.

Learn What to Do When a Driver Ran a Red Light

The best thing to do if someone ran a red light and hit you is to check yourself for injuries, get the driver’s insurance information, take pictures of the damage to your car, and file a police report.

By taking these steps, you can make sure that you’re protected and that the person who hit you is accountable for their actions.
